My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way and Joe Rogan are related

In news that has rattled me to my core, My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way and polarizing podcaster Joe Rogan are related.

Clerks director Kevin Smith recently appeared on episode 1372 of Rogan’s podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience. During the episode, Smith did the universe a favour and asked for the truth about the rumoured familial connection.

“I gotta ask a question on behalf of somebody else,” Smith began. “Your grandmother named Josie—Gerard Way, lead singer of My Chemical Romance” ”Yeah, we’re related,” Rogan confirms.

“That’s what he said,” Smith continues. “I’m talking to Gerard, and he goes, ‘I don’t have 100% confirmation on this, but I’m pretty sure Joe Rogan is my cousin because my Aunt Josie was his grandmother.’”

Smith then went on to suggest that Rogan invite Way on to the show. Neither Way or Rogan know each other, but is there any better way to forge a family bond than in front of an audience of 11 million people?

Last month, Australian music fans were blessed beyond belief when sax-wielding hero Alex Lahey delivered a triumphant cover of the My Chemical Romance classic ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ on Like A Version.

 A cover that Gerard Way gave a glowing tick of approval.

“This made my morning! Alex Lahey (@alex_lahey) and her band covering Welcome To The Black Parade,” Way shared in an Instagram post.

“A friend of mine just sent me a link to this Alex Lahey cover, which gave me chills.

“What I appreciate about Alex and Co’s Parade cover is how much they really went for it, and with all of the additional instruments (those cymbals!) and everyone singing and just smiling and having a good time. Really amazing performance.”

Way continued to reveal that he had taken the time out to listen to Alex Lahey’s debut record, I Love You Like A Brother.

“My friend told me to check out her album, I Love You Like A Brother and I thought it was great, you should check it out too if you like.”
